I just started reading one of the new comic books by Mark Millar. If his name doesn't sound familiar, his output will. He wrote the comic books Kick-Ass and Wanted. This new comic, Nemesis is about a super villian who is essentially the anti-batman. He has all the wits, money and skill that Batman has except he is maniacal. The book is about his journey to seek vengeance against one of the most decorated cops in the United States. Like many of Millar's books, Nemesis is addicting from the first book onward. The art is from Steve McNiven who did the art on Civil War at Marvel. In other words it is GORGEOUS. The writing is crisp and you instantly hate and love Nemesis at the same time. I highly recommend this book. Its on issue number 3 or 4 and has already been option for a movie adaptation. (of course )

I thought it was a cool story at first, but by the third issue it wasn't quite working for me. And it's been a while since the third issue, hasn't it? Have you read Superior? That's also Millar along with Leinil Yu (doesn't he do the art for Nemesis as well?) and it's pretty awesome.

It's still totally working for me. I both love and hate Nemesis. I also really want to see where this goes. Superior, on the other hand didn't hook me with the first 2 issues. It just doesn't seem interesting. Leinil Yu is amazing of course, but art does not a comic make

Superior, on the other hand didn't hook me with the first 2 issues. It just doesn't seem interesting. Leinil Yu is amazing of course, but art does not a comic make The thing that hit me with Superior was that it came out at the same time as Soldier Zero and both had the same basic idea (crippled person gets super powers). Then it also had the "wow, he's like Billy Batson" idea against it. But with issue #3 I thought it made some ground in setting itself apart with the cosmo-monkey's statement at the end. And it's (I believe) a six issue series so it's a definite start-to-finish story.

did you ever read the Wanted comic series? I haven't, no. But issue 4 of Nemesis came out this week so I'll be able to talk about it on Tuesday's comic book update.

My final review for it was, and I quote: YEEEEEEEEEEARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!Seriously, I was so annoyed with the ending I could have punched Millar in the throat for it. I thought it was a crappy way to end the first story with plans to do a second. On principle I probably won't buy the second series because he pissed me off so much.

yeah, my thoughts exactly. Awful And it had so much potential to be a great series. How can you screw up "He's the Anti-Batman" that royally?

trying to hard to do a twist, thats how Yeah, that's definitely where he screwed it up. Why not just go for a straight forward story? Not everything needs a twist at the end that leaves it open for more comics. I have more respect for a series that can end with dignity than one that tries to leave itself room to come back to the well (are you listening, Marvel Zombies?)...
