My wife and I went to see this yesterday.
WOW!
It was a very tense psychological thriller.
Natalie Portman plays Nina, a ballet dancer who had been promised a more prominent role in the production company's new season. Her mother, a dancer who gave up her career to be a single mother, pushes her to be the best she can be. And when her company's director seems unconvinced Nina can pull off his idea of having the lead in "Swan Lake" play both the Swan Queen and the evil twin of the queen, she has to find it in herself to become what he wants.
And when it becomes obvious to her that what he wants is the newest member of the troupe, Lily, she starts to grow paranoid.
This film was hands down full of suspense and intrigue. You never knew for certain what was going on. Was Nina being paranoid? Or was Lily trying to gaslight her? Is she going to turn into Beth, the former company lead, and become paranoid and crazy, or was Beth just used up by Tomas, the director, and now cast aside as he sets his eyes on Nina?
And the ending is awesome.
Go see it.
