read anything good as of late? I just finished Sleepwalker by Keith Latch (another copy of which just so happens to be our current contest prize!) and liked it a lot. He built tension but didn't treat the reader like they needed to have their hands held with the plot. Right up to the ending it was tense. I'm also reading Dark: A Horror Anthology on my Kindle. Great collection: I just finished up the first two stories last night.

I just finished Lakewood Memorial by Robert R. Best. It was a surprisingly good novel. I am not the biggest zombie fan out there. I enjoy the genre when done well though and this was a case of the zombie monster done very well.
The characters were real characters and the action moved at a fast clip. The gore was well handled as well. It came fast and brutal with several deaths that came at you from left field. There were a couple issues I had with some of the characters particularly one that wanted to kill himself that didn't seem to ring true with me, but other than that the book was a great read and not too demanding of your time.
If you have a kindle, the book is only $2.99 on the Amazon Marketplace and is well worth your time. One issue with the conversion though is that there aren't any quotation marks in the text for a good part of the book at first. Not sure why this is, but it was a little distracting at first.
Highly recommended!

Day by day Armageddon By JL Bourne
this is one of my favorite zombie books of all time! Its a 1st. person narration and it really works. A flu like virus spreads over in China and before America can react, BOOM! apocalypse beguines! This book will grab you by the throat and never let go! the description of the living dead give you a good idea on how they may have died and its gruesome. 10 out of 10 for sure!

I absolutely loved DBDA. I also loved World War Z even though I think Brooks is a complete tool.

I'm kind of curious about this Max Brooks-Tool story, myself, Misfitboy!
Hmm... I do have on my nearby "pull" pile to read "Ashton Memorial" by Robert R. Best, and "The Zombist", which is a LOTLD Western-zombie anthology. But I also just go through the library Joel Schreiber's "Star Wars: Red Harvest", which I am wanting to read soon, as well!

Currently reading "Lazarus" by Lori Titus, a good ole fashioned Zombie Western, published with The Library Of The Living Dead

1/3 of the way through "Red Harvest" by JOE Schreiber. First chapter felt a bit more like an "average" "Star Wars" novel, but it later picks up the nice tone that "Death Troopers" had... and it's also not taking its time to get good and gruesome.

why is Brooks a tool? I don't know much about him Brooks likes to take credit for the popularity of the zombie genre. Completely ignoring the works of everybody who preceeded him.

Brooks can't single-handedly take credit for the zombie genre popularity, but I will not take away the fact that "World War Z" was the first step towards zombie-gateway acceptance by non-Horror genre completists.

He helped, sure. But that's not what he said. Corey was the one who played the clip of Brooks being interviewed on, I think, NPR. And Brooks said that, before him, nobody was doing anything with zombies and that after WWZ it just exploded. Because, of course, there was no Romero, no Fulci, no Argento, no Boyle (yeah, 28 Days Later isn't zombies, but it's a gateway drug), no Kirkman, etc...

And speaking of zombie-related books, finished off "Red Harvest", today. I get the impression that it actually was MORE graphic than "Death Troopers". But all in all, if you like zombies in your "Star Wars", this prequel/sequel is really a fast and fun read.
